Aims and Objectives

I have looked at a number of peoples aims and objectives and before blogging my own tried to take on board some of the feedback given. After reading Rosemary’scomments on Rebecca’s blog I have tried not to be over ambitious with what I want to achieve and keep it realistic within the time frame but also relevant to what is going to be of help to me in my practice. I was under some confusion about the differences between your aims and objectives and felt when reading there was not always a clear difference, after pointing this out to Laura she revised her original points to fit a clearer format. From looking into it further my understanding is that

Aims are your overall goal or what you want to achieve.

Objections are what you will do to achieve them.

With all of this in mind here are my Aims and Objectives for my inquiry:

Aims
  • ·       To be able to structure a dance class where by differentiation is built in to allow you to cater for various students learning needs.

  • ·       To recognise differences in learning styles and offer alternatives through different teaching methods.

  • ·       To be inclusive in dance and ensure each student is being challenged within their own capabilities.

  • ·       To give students the opportunity to maximise their own learning and enjoyment in dance.

Objectives

  • ·       Review literature to find out what theories are already established within my research area and look at how these can be used specifically in teaching dance.

  • ·       Discover fellow teachers’ views on using differentiation within a dance class and what tried and tested methods they use.

  • ·       Improve my knowledge on learning styles and teaching styles and then apply this knowledge more specifically to a dance class.

  • ·       Establish what factors contribute to students continued interest in dance.

  1. Hi Cerys thank you for sharing your thoughts on my blog and taking my survey! You ask a very interesting question ‘What makes me a good teacher?’ I agree that teaching is a big responsibility and the basics of teaching are paramount to the success of each class. Most of the classes I teach have 30 pupils in all with different personalities and a variety of abilities which is why I enjoy teaching so much. I see each pupil as a challenge each one waiting to discover new things about themselves skills they didn’t know they had and only I can make that happen. I have always been perceptive picking up on the smallest things growing up so I was labelled as over sensitive (a negative attribute). However now as I feel this skill enables me to see what others may not I empathise and analyse each pupil’s behaviour which seems to gain their respect and trust so I know I have their attention. I feel I can see what works and what goes wrong and am able to keep calm in tense situations. I don’t think this is age specific either being more human behaviour patterns. I don’t have a problem with being assertive and instilling strict discipline when needed and I have boundaries if crossed there are consequences. My classes are planned to impart knowledge aswell as to enjoy and this balance over the years has produced many positive exam results, appreciation from parents and recognition/reassurance from other teachers that my teaching skills show progression through my pupils. Of course I want my pupils to like me but if this impedes their learning potential then it’s not necessary for me to be a good teacher. These things help me to feel like I am a good teacher if I were ever unsure of my ability/lesson plans/approach to a new situation I know I have a large network of professionals some with over 30 years of teaching and performing experience to consult.
So to answer ‘What makes a good teacher? ’
Empathy/apathy, passion, self belief, self motivation, patience/persistence and adaptability. To be ok if something goes wrong there are always new situations that you can’t plan for its how you react to these situations that determine the outcome.
Hope this helps in some way.
